How to Open and Eat Pomegranate Step by Step
I like a pomegranate. However, inconvenience to deseed it always stopped me from buying often this beneficial for health pom fruit. Christmas 2016 we received a large box of pomegranates from California as a gift and I had a lot of practice how to open and eat this fruit. Also, pomegranate is so nice to use decorate salads, deserts, some meat dishes, make a smoothie (the recipe on the bottom of the page) and jello can be sweet and spicy. The example of use spicy jello, I make slightly spicy pomegranate jello to cover chicken liver pate, layer is very thin.
Pomegranate in Russia
I am Russian and pomegranate is not exotic fruit to me as well not stranger in my kitchen. Pomegranate is grown widely in South Russia from the Black sea to the Caspian sea. It is very popular fruit and it widely available at markets of Russia includes far North of the country.
Culinary use in Russian cuisine mostly in sauces, juice, and desserts. Very often use to garnish dishes, especially for New Year Eve Holiday table. Recipe of jello from pomegranate includes in classic Russian cookbook Molokhovets “A Gift to Young Housewives”( 1861)*. It was used in cooking for the elite in old days at Russia. Interesting and exotic ingredient in the recipe is orange flower water. I checked on Wikipedia and learned the orange flower water use widely in many cuisines as natural aromatizer in desserts. I may try some day…

Cut off top and bottom of the fruit. On the top, we can see direction membranes of the fruit.
2. Cut skin vertically where is a membrane. Make loose by pulling fruit apart gently.
3. The seeds ready to separate from the fruit or serve as is.
