Kompot is very popular beverage in Russia. We make kompot from fresh and dry berries and fruits. This recipe is so good because we don’t boil berries and preserve most vitamins. Taste is so good and pleasant. Very good natural beverage for kids with beautifully vibrant color!
I freeze leftovers of kompot in an ice tray. The frozen cubes won’t dilute our beverage. It nice to add to a glass of water in the summer.
Use a pot with a coating because recipe includes acid. Aluminum pot is not a good choice!
If you are going to substitute sugar for honey. Remember, don’t boil or add to hot water honey, add it to warm water (temperature must to be pleasant for your hand).
Ice cube from kompot is a nice addition to a mug of cocoa beverage. I also like to add to my fruit smoothie, it gives strawberry flavor.
5 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons sweet wine
1 pound of strawberries
*Just remember, sugar and strawberry can have different sweetness and lemons have different acid level. But it very easy to adjust to your taste.
Add sugar to hot water and bring to boil.
2. Add wine to boiling water and boil for 3-5 min on slow heat.
3. Turn off heat and add lemon juice.
4. Cool the syrup. Add the syrup to strawberries. This way we save most vitamins from the berries.
