1. Rouses – Best Food Market To Buy Local Louisiana Food In Slidell

The best Slidell food market for finding local Louisiana food souvenirs is Rouses Market. The reason I recommended it is that all our local food is marked with a “Local” purple label, and you can easily find authentic Louisiana food for gifts in most departments. Great place where we can buy unique Louisiana food gifts in Slidell.
*We have just one Rouses at Slidell now, the address is 1644 Gause Blvd, Slidell, LA 70458

The store always has Louisiana-designed aprons, but they rotate them from time to time. They are located on the left side of the store next to the refrigerators, when I took the photo.

Rouses has very good quality, made-in-store sausages with excellent flavor and texture. I use only these sausages in my jambalaya and gumbo. If you’re looking for a true local experience, I would recommend trying authentic Louisiana andouille and boudin. That’s where you’ll really taste the traditional Cajun flavors.

Rouses Market has a good selection of Mardi Gras food, drinks, and souvenirs during carnival season.

A wide variety of flavors of King Cakes, which you should try during the Mardi Gras season in Louisiana.
2. Slidell Pralines Gifts Shop – “Nola Chris with a Twist”

The best sweet handmade Louisiana food gifts are pralines. Pralines are local Louisiana candies that look like cookies and are very addictive! They come with different flavors; my favorite is with pecans. The best place to buy praline gifts is “Nola Chris with a Twist”; they are delicious and the best we’ve tried locally at Slidell. Definitely much, much better than you can find at the grocery store. The store is 5 minutes’ drive from the Rouses market store. They also offer preserves and other sweets that you might like. I personally tried only pralines at this store, but I am sure other sweets are good as well. One of the best places to buy locally made food gifts is in Slidell, Louisiana.

3. Louisiana Bowfin Cajun Caviar

Looking for a unique Louisiana seafood delicacy to try or as a gift? Cajun black caviar is a Louisiana local delicacy that many people haven’t heard about. It is a really good caviar to try, of course, if you like caviar. We tried the original Cajun black caviar, and it was excellent and well-balanced in flavor. Louisiana caviar is surprisingly competitive with well-known black malossol caviars, at least what I tried in my life. A jar of caviar is a perfect Louisiana gourmet seafood gift for a person who likes caviar. Highly recommend it.
*Cajun Caviar is made out of wild-caught Bowfin from the fresh waters of the Atchafalaya basin in Louisiana.

Where to buy Louisiana caviar in Slidell?
Rouses Market grocery store always has caviar. It is located on the right side of the seafood department in an open refrigerated display or on ice alongside fresh fish and other seafood delicacies.
*The prices are competitive with other black caviars on the market, but the quality is better than some more expensive ones I bought in the past.

4. Slap Ya Mama is One of the Best Cajun Seasoning Blend

Slap Ya Mama is one of the best Cajun seasoning blends to give as a gift or keep stocked in your own kitchen. It’s a true staple in my pantry, and I use it on everything—beef, pork, chicken, and seafood. Whenever you’re not sure what spices to use, just add a little Slap Ya Mama, and you’ll immediately taste the difference. Our favorite is the classic yellow-and-red jar, but they also offer other options, including low-sodium and extra-spicy versions. Slap Ya Mama is definitely my #1 Cajun spice mix recommendation.
*My husband travels the USA for work and loves bringing Slap Ya Mama spice mix as Louisiana souvenirs. It’s surprising how many people tell him they already use this Cajun seasoning mix in their kitchen and love it.
5. Slap Ya Mama Cajun Fish Fry Seasoning Mix

Slap Ya Mama Cajun Fish Fry Coating is well-balanced with authentic Louisiana Cajun flavor and just the right amount of heat—never overwhelmingly spicy. Coating has an authentic Cajun taste and crispy texture. I don’t fry fish often, but when I do, this Louisiana fish fry mix is one of my top choices for bold flavor and consistent results. Of course, you can use it for frying varieties of seafood as well.
*We brought Slap Ya Mama Fish Fry to a birthday celebration in Jacksonville, Florida, where my friend’s husband—an Atlantic Ocean fisherman—had plenty of fresh fish to cook. With more than 20 guests, from teens to 80-year-olds, we weren’t sure how everyone would react since they had never tried it, and they worried it might be too spicy. We fried a few pieces to test it—and everyone loved it! In the end, we coated and fried all the fish with it.
6. Best Boxed Jambalaya Mix – “Jambalaya Girl” Jambalaya Seasoned Rice Blend

If you’re looking for the best boxed jambalaya mix, my top choice is the “Jambalaya Girl” Seasoned Rice Mix. This Louisiana-style jambalaya mix isn’t overly hot, but it has authentic Cajun flavors. The package directions make a delicious, easy one-pot meal. The recipe is so easy, just add water, chicken, and sausage to make jambalaya. However, I like enrich my recipe with additional ingredients. You can find my video recipe for jambalaya at the bottom of the page. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to make authentic Louisiana flavor jambalaya with minimal effort.
7. Louisiana Girl Gumbo Mix
“Jambalaya Girl” gumbo mix is my family’s favorite, not spicy hot but flavorful. I also added trinity vegetables (bell pepper, onion, and celery) to chicken thighs and sausage. At the end, I add a can of crab meat. I use less expensive crab meat from a can. This gives more body and richness to gumbo. Add okra from a can and take your gumbo to another level! I serve with rice, green onion, or parsley on top, and saltine crackers on the side. Try it!
8. Zatarain’s Cajun Injector Creole Butter

Zatarain’s Cajun Injector Creole Butter is my family’s absolute favorite for Thanksgiving turkey. It delivers a rich, savory flavor that keeps the turkey incredibly juicy deep inside the meat. Ever since my husband started injecting our turkey with this Creole butter, our Thanksgiving turkey has tasted so much better. Now it’s a must-have in our house. He won’t make a turkey without it! Highly recommend for holiday meals and especially for Thanksgiving.
9. Crystal Louisiana Hot Sauce

Crystal Louisiana hot sauce is another staple in my kitchen. I recommend taking home from Louisiana. Flavorful with balanced heat sauce, not too spicy. Great sauce to have on your table for every day!
10. II TONYS New Orleans Style Marinara Sauce

II TONYS Marinara Sauce New Orleans style is a great pasta sauce. My family’s favorite. I use it in lasagna, stuffed manicotti, meatballs with pasta, or other pasta-related dishes. The sauce is sometimes out in the stores (Rouses or Mizer’s Foods), but if you see it, give it a try. It costs a few dollars more than most sauces, but it is really worth it!
11. New Orleans Hubig’s Pies
Hubig’s Pies are one of our favorite Louisiana food gifts to bring when traveling out of town. These classic New Orleans hand pies have been part of the city’s history since 1921, making them a delicious piece of local history. The pies are sweet, flavorful, and perfectly portable—ideal for sharing with friends and family. My favorite is the apple and peach flavors. If you’re looking for an authentic Louisiana treat to take home, New Orleans Hubig’s Pies are a wonderful and easy option. They make a thoughtful, tasty food gift and a little piece of New Orleans history in every bite.
