Sour Cream Draving Garnish Technique (Mayonnaise)
We can decorate food with sour cream or mayonnaise. We can make so cute sour cream garnishes! For example, the sour cream heart on crepes is colored with beet juice (see photos below). Other natural juices can be used also for this purpose like carrot juice and spinach. Sweet is great natural coloring is raspberry. The small and simple touch to the plate not only improves the presentation of the dish it can carry a message. Another purpose of this garnish is a few slices of vegetables much more pleasant to eat with sauce. Especially works well for kids’ platters!
*At restaurants for banquets to improve stability of sauces for garnish use gelatin.
I use a simple technique for sliced tomato decoration. This technique we can use for cucumber or other vegetables.
Tomato with sour cream is so good combination.
It is not just decor, we make tomato or other vegetables speak without words for us. It is fun, entertaining and can carry a message. Example, write letter and kids will be read it and memorize, a heart for love as a message, kiss the cook as request… The limit is just our fantasy.

- 1 plastic bag.
- Glass for convenience (I use measuring cup in the picture)
- Place the bag in glass for easy filling. Cut the tip of the plastic bag.
2. Push out the air out of the bag. Practice writing before decorating your tomato to get to feel how the sour cream goes out.
3. If you would like, you can add a little cheddar cheese to the center and the flower will be more beautiful.
