Breakfast Farina Porridge Or Mannaya Kasha Recipe
Farina porridge or mannaya kasha is the simplest and quickest porridge to cook! Great breakfast porridge! My kids grow up with farina porridge. Easy to make and because of very neutral taste we can add different fruits, berries, and honey.
What is mannaya kasha? Mannaya kasha is porridge from semolina or farina. I live in the USA and here in stores, I tried cream of wheat and farina. You can make porridge but it will be not Russian mannaya kasha. I buy my farina or semolina at Russian or European stores. As a consumer, I see different by the size of grains, farina finer than semolina. However, everything depends on the company where from the product. You can buy real manky (grains for mannaya kasha) at established European and Russian stores. They know what customer looking for and have real mannya krypa, sometimes it name semolina, sometimes farina but very close to what we have at Russia and make mannaya kasha from.
Easy to make but tricky if you don’t have experience. Very important to get smooth and even consistency. If you see lumps in your porridge it made not properly.
500 ml (2 cups) milk or 1/2 milk and 1/2 water
100 g (0.5 cup) farina
0.5 teaspoon salt
0.5 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoon butter (add when serving)
Under cover step improves quality of our porridge but if you don’t have time, you easy can skip this step and start eat your porridge.
- Add salt to warm milk.
2. Add sugar to warm milk and stir it, so salt and sugar dissolved well.
3. Bring milk to boil. Reduce heat and start adding farina very slowly by small portions and with another spoon mix in with the milk. Steering all cooking time so porridge comes out smooth. Boil 3-5 minutes on low, stirring frequently.
Don’t leave alone milk and porridge on a stove when cooking it! Milk can escape so fast from a pot and it will be a lot of smoke and cleaning after.
4. Cover pot with a towel and let “rest” for 10-15 min. before serve.
We can serve with fruits and other yummy goods! Good addition can be blueberries, strawberries, mango, banana. For children with any fruit puree. I serve on the photo with butter. The round shape I made with a melon baller and sunshine effect I made with a toothpick, just drove a few stripes.
Enjoy!
The best way to serve sermolina porridge is on a flat plate instead of a bowl. Especially for breakfast in the morning before going to work and you don’t have time to cool off porridge! When we get ready for work and freshly made semolina porridge is hot. When we place in a bowl, it takes much longer to cool off. When we place on a flat plate, it is ready to eat! Start from outside and go to the center. Yum, yum, yum!
