3 Creative Ways to Decorate Banana Bread + A Delicious Recipe
Banana bread is a timeless classic and comforting dessert. I tried a few recipes and always back to this simple and the best so far recipe which I am going to share with you. Most of the time I just sprinkle with powdered sugar as decor but even in this simple technique I have to share something interesting I learned just recently. In this guide, you’ll discover three simple but impressive and delicious ways to decorate banana bread, making it perfect for any occasion.
1. How To Elevate Banana Bread With A Sugar Powder Topping
One of the easiest and my favorite ways to decorate banana bread is by sprinkling it with powdered sugar. The contrast between the light sugar and the deep, rich color of the bread instantly gives it a fancier, more refined look.
Pro Tip: Always sprinkle powdered sugar on completely cooled banana bread to prevent it from melting.
For a professional, bakery-style finish, consider using non-melting topping sugar. Unlike regular powdered sugar, this special topping holds up well under plastic wrap and stays intact even on fresh, warm baked goods—perfect for impressing family and friends!
*Another use for non-melting powdered sugar—besides baked goods—is as a topping for freshly cut fruit. It adds a delicate, elegant touch, making fruit platters look more vibrant—perfect for banquets and parties. I saw this idea on Instagram, and it was impressive!
2. Banana Bread Recipe Decorated With Banana Slices
Another beautiful way to decorate banana bread is by adding banana slices on top before baking. This simple touch enhances the look!
For the best results, choose a firm banana to prevent it from becoming too mushy. I sliced mine lengthwise and placed two slices—one on each side of the loaf. After baking, I dusted it with powdered sugar, but it looks just as stunning without it.
This easy trick creates a more visually appealing banana bread compared to a plain top, making it perfect for serving at gatherings or gifting!
3. Banana Bread Recipe Decorated With Merengue and Pecan
In the photo above I decorated my banana bread with meringue and pecans on the top. The technique is easy and delicious! Takes a few minutes to make beautiful banana bread.
Step 1. Add to cold egg white 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar and a few drops of lemon or lime juice.
Step 2. Beat with mixer mixture by stiff peaks.
Cover the top of the hot banana bread with a thin layer of meringue and sprinkle with pecans on the top. Broil for 1-2 minutes by merengue change to a pretty golden color.
Easy and Tasty Classic Banana Bread Recipe Without Sour Cream
The best banana bread recipe I’ve ever tried. It is so easy to make and so far the winner by taste in my family. I tried some more complicated recipes, and so far, this simple one is the winner in my family! We don’t need to use a mixer or soften butter; just mix with a spatula and place in the oven. It always comes out moist on the inside and crispy on the outside if I use my metal baking pan. Yummy, yummy! Give a try to this recipe! I gave away a few loaves of bread and received only compliments. Great classic American banana bread recipe!
*Read the tips I am sharing, so no disappointment in the recipe!
Banana Bread Ingredients:
- 3 very raip banana
- 1/3 cup melted butter (unsalted)
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Direction:
Turn on oven 350ºF or 180ºC
- Mash 3 bananas with a potato masher. 1 1/4 cups of mashed banana.
*If you don’t have a potato masher use a fork instead.
2. Add to banana mixture 1/3 cup of melted butter and mix with a spatula.
3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt. I adding salt to the wet mixture so it has time to dissolve.
* The tip from a great baker I follow all my life. Add a pinch of salt to any cake batter even the recipe doesn’t have salt. The cake tastes better.
4. Add slightly beaten egg.
*I sometimes add the whole egg and mix in with a spatula. Always beat egg in a separate bowl because if something wrong with the egg, you not going to spoil all batter.
5. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
6. Add 1 cup of sugar.
7. Add 1 teaspoon of soda.
8. Add 2 cups of sifted flour. Leave out 2 tablespoons of flour to mix with pecans.
*Flour we sifted to enrich with air. Sifted flour is better incorporated with ingredients.
9. Mix 1 tablespoon flour with pecans before adding to batter. Coated with flour pecans are combining evenly in bread better.
10. Grease with butter your bread pan. Add batter to pan.
*I used a metal bread pan 5″ x 10″ Hight 3″
11. Bake 1 hour 350ºF or 180°C. Check with a wooden stick for doneness, it must come out dry.
*If your bread looks golden on the outside but isn’t fully baked inside, simply cover the top with foil and continue baking. This prevents over-browning while allowing the center to cook through. Baking time can vary depending on the type of mold and your oven’s performance.
12. Cool off for 10 minutes and it will be much easier to take out of the bread pan.
Enjoy this delicious banana bread in so many ways! Spread with butter, topped with ice cream, or drizzled with sweetened condensed milk – the choice is yours. It’s also perfect on its own, paired with a cup of tea or coffee.
For this photo, I baked my banana bread in a different shape of pan and dusted it with powdered sugar. Since we serve it upside down, a smooth, cavity-free surface is crucial. To ensure this, gently tap the pan on the table before baking to settle the batter.

TIPS
I am making banana so often, so I have some tips for you to share.
1. Baking Banana Bread In Silicone Baking Pans
I tested my silicone baking pan compared to a metal old-fashioned baking pan. It takes slightly less time in silicone but the sides of the bread are not crispy like in the metal baking pan. So if you are looking for soft sides of your banana bread, consider using a silicone baking pan.
2. How to Freeze Banana Bread for Maximum Freshness
I recently tested a heavier metal mold for baking bread, and it reduced 10 minutes the baking time—it was done in 50 minutes instead of the usual hour. In the photo above, I decorated banana bread with cut pecans. They look good because I finished baking under foil.
4. Vegetable Chopper For Choping Pecans
Chopping pecans with a knife is a time-consuming process and messy at the same time. We can use a small electric processor, but not easy to control the chopping process because of the speed. I like the best use of a simple kitchen utensil vegetable chopper. Very easy to control the chopping process.
Tasty Banana Bread With Almond Flour
Here is the same banana bread recipe I tried with whole wheat and almond flour. The bread comes out good too, my family equally like this version of banana bread. Actually, not a big difference but almond flour gluten-free.
Make almond flour yourself (my direction has how to peel almonds) ⇒ How to Make Almond Flour From Scratch
I tried almond flour from the store and a good brand, but it is not so good as homemade. Homemade almond flour we can eat as is, for example on dessert. Store almond flour does not taste so great itself. I tried to bake with store-bought almond flour and can tell, it is a big difference.
- 3 very raip banana
- 1/3 cups melted butter (unsalted)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Cooking direction the same as the original recipe above.
